Designing For The Web With Photoshop CS2

By Geoff Riggs

Running Time: 1 hours, 33 minutes

Overview

Photoshop is the undesputed king for creating and editing images. Trainer Geoff Riggs shares his expertise showing you how to use this powerful tool to create and optimze images to be used in your web page design. Let him show you how to work his magic for your client's designs.

Detailed Video Descriptions

  1 - Introduction (Running Time - 0:47)
Geoff introduces himself and discusses the topics to be covered in the Designing for the Web series.

  2 - File Formats (Running Time - 3:27)
Photoshop provides myriad file formats for saving and exporting image files. However, when designing for the web, there are only a few choices to consider. This tutorial examines the various file formats available in Photoshop for use on the web.

  3 - Save For Web (Running Time - 5:56)
The “Save for Web” dialog is command central for saving image files for use on the web and can be quite confusing at first. This tutorial will guide you through the various aspects of this invaluable tool.

  4 - Compression Examples (Running Time - 2:35)
It’s important to make the correct decisions when preparing to compress and save your images for the web. This tutorial compares the different compression types and how they affect your image.

  5 - Optimizing JPEG Files (Running Time - 6:38)
In this tutorial we explain the various compression settings used in exporting a continuous tone image using the omnipresent JPEG compression method.

  6 - Optimizing GIF Files Part 1 (Running Time - 9:22)
GIF files are one of the first file types associated with web images and have a wide variety of output settings. This two part tutorial series illustrates the use of these various settings in the “Save for Web” dialog.

  7 - Optimizing GIF Files Part 2 (Running Time - 6:18)
This is the second part to optimizing GIF Files. Geoff Continues with more in depth settings for "Save for Web" GIF images.

   8 - Selective Optimizing (Running Time - 4:30)
When you absolutely have to get your image down to or below a specified file size, this tutorial explores a few advanced methods that just might save the day.

   9 - Web Page Layout (Running Time - 6:28)
When designing a web page in Photoshop, it’s a good idea to plan a basic layout and structure before you start. In this video, we illustrate a method for laying out a basic web page in Photoshop.

   10 - Image Slicing (Running Time - 12:02)
In order to get the smallest file size for your images or web page, you may need to save parts of an image at different compression settings - or even different file types. This video will show you how to slice and dice an image into separate pieces for export.

   11 - Saving Slices Part 1 (Running Time - 5:59)
After we’ve sliced up our image, we’re then ready to save the “pieces.” In this two part tutorial we’ll save our slices by applying compression settings based on slice content in the “Save for Web” dialog.

   12 - Saving Slices Part 2 (Running Time - 14:14)
Geoff continues showing the technique of slicing a layout properly for use on the web.

   13 - Background Image (Running Time - 4:31)
This tutorial illustrates a quick way to produce a fast loading gradient background for a web page. Quick, elegant and easy!

   14 - GIF Animation (Running Time - 10:40)
One of the interesting and fun aspects of GIF files is their inherent ability to be animated. No doubt you’ve seen these everywhere! This video demonstrates how easy this is done in Photoshop.

4. ** BONUS ** ($97.00 Value) Web Design webinar entitled: "Building Websites With Real Value - How to Find Clients Who Will Gladly Pay You $10,000 Or More For Their Website"

Stop settling for $500 to $1000 web design projects and start making some real money. More importantly, start building a real business. You know, the kind that will allow you to take some time off and still have money coming in. The kind of business where you are building an asset that can be sold at some point in the future.

If you are tired of working long hours grinding away in front the computer just to make the same money as a Starbucks barista, then you will be very interested in the following information.

Each week I host a webinar where I show designers the exact skills you need to develop to take your business to the next level. For some, that means being able to go from part-time to full-time. How nice would it be to trade in your day job for a successful business where you call the shots. For others that is means getting your very first client.

I even show the pros how to grow their business. Just last week we had a guy that fit in that top 1% category. He is charging $30,000, on the low end, for a website. He was making more money than almost all of the other 22 attendees combined.

I opened his eyes to some new ideas, one of which has the potential to double his already successful business. That is the thing about the top 1% - they are always anxious to learn something new. He could have easily passed on the opportunity to attend the webinar based on his success, but there he was soaking up new ideas to grow his business.

How To Attend The Webinar

The webinar is a 2 hour presentation plus a live Q and A session. Most of these sessions last over three hours.

We use Webex to facilitate the webinars. This allows you to watch and listen to the live presentation via the web. We use the chat feature to create a very interactive experience. I am constantly asking questions and polling the audience. This has resulted in some great sessions allowing you to learn from other attendees also.
